An Award and a Giveaway!

Kals from  At Pemberley  has given me One Lovely Blog Award. Thank you so much Kals!

Here's a chance to win my very first giveaway. I've accumulated a number of books while in Holland so I'm not keen to bring home the ones I've already read. Up for grabs is Captivated, J.M. Barrie, Daphne du Maurier and the Dark Side of Neverland by Piers Dudgeon. I'll be posting a review for this soon. It's a paperback copy and very gently read and I so enjoyed it that I want to pass it on to another Daphne du Maurier fan anywhere in the world. To join in, please leave a comment saying what your favourite Daphne du Maurier book is and why. First time commenters welcome too. I'll randomly choose a winner on Wednesday morning, 9am, continental European time. Good luck!

  1. My favourite is Vanishing Cornwall - I think it is a wonderful evocation of a county and beautifully illustrated.

  2. Oh that sounds like a brilliant read! I may not be buying any books this year but it doesn't mean I can't win some! My favourite will always be Rebecca - haunting and brilliant in every way. Thanks for such a generous and interesting giveaway!

  4. Your "Captivated" is my "Neverland". Loved it and I hope you will too. I am quite fond of Daphne's short stories. They're a cross between Muriel Spark and Shirley Jackson.

  5. I have heard of this book before and thought it sounded just fantastic so I would love to be included in the draw. My favourite book would have to be Rebecca - possibly because it is the first one I read and it has always captivated me.

  6. Sounds like such a fascinating read! My favourite has to be Rebecca which was perfectly spooky and brought Cornwall to life. I also enjoyed the dashing adventure of Frenchman's Creek which was really fun to read.

  7. This sounds wonderful, as I can't buy books am all about giveaways and Daphne is one of my favourite authors so how can I not be up for this one???

My favourite Du Maurier has to be Rebecca because it was the first I read of hers, it haunts me still, I think Mrs Danvers is just a brilliant character, it has gothic undertones and is a masterpiece... oh and it made me want to read so much more.

  8. Yes, Rebecca for me too. I can still visualise myself reading it at home on the sofa aged 14 and falling in love with Max. My Cousin Rachel is good for an ambiguous heroine too, though, and The Scapegoat is rather interesting. Oh, dear, have cheated again and listed three!

  9. I'd love to enter- it's a cliche, but my favourite is also Rebecca. It's hard to overestimate the effect it had on me as a 13 year old. I'm so glad that Virago has 'rescued' du Maurier as all of them are interesting in their way- The Parasites is a quietly disturbing, underrated one, I think.

  10. I'm not sure I qualify, as I've not yet read Du Maurier; of course I watched Rebecca many times, and love it, and I spent many happy walks going past Du Maurier's House in Hampstead. I am curious about this book, though! ;)

  11. What a wonderful draw. My favourite has to be Rebecaa because it was so haunting and stayed with me long after I finished the book.
