A Kindle For Me

I never thought I'd buy an e-reader. I love the feel and smell of books too much. I love having them around the house, cramming my shelves and overflowing my night table. But besides being a bookworm, I'm also a big fan of gadgets. Between my husband and I, I'm the one with the iphone, the ipad, the SLR or the latest point and shoot. I just love these things.

When I physically saw the Kindle, I thought it looked amazing...so unbelievably light and so thin. It's a fantastic device. But still I believed I didn't need one. However, during the last few months I've been dying to read certain books that are not available in Manila. If you know the feeling, then you know this can be quite frustrating. I could always order them from The Book Depository but that usually takes 10 or more days and I wanted them yesterday. So that's what finally sold me. Having the Kindle would give me access to books that aren't available here and to new hardbound novels. So I made my order and I got my Kindle yesterday. I love it already! It's amazing and I've already started reading my first book., The Imperfectionists by Tom Rachman. So far, it's pretty good. And what are you reading on your Kindle?

  1. I love my Kindle and wish I could afford to transfer all of my unread books onto it....LOL (never thought I'd say that). Since January I've read (4) eBooks)

    enjoy

  2. I am reading Little Women at the moment, but I am obsessed with downloading sample books and trying them out to see if I would like them or not.

  3. I am hoping to receive my own Kindle next week (as a birthday gift). I never thought I would convert but there are definitely advantages and in my case it's a matter of space and convenience. I am already planning what to download onto it for my summer holidays.

  4. I am still readin War & Peace on mine, thats when I think the kindle comes into its own as I haven't got to hold such a heavy book in my hands or put up with tiny writing.

  5. While my Nook and your Kindle aren't the answer to real books, they are wonderful help. I love my Nook for the sheer amount of books it can hold, the way I can enlarge the print when necessary, and the easy access to almost any book I want for far less than it would cost in a bookshop. I hope you like your Kindle as much as I like my Nook, even when we're missing the scent of the book's true pages.

(I'm currently reading the Bible for Lent, and I found a wonderful new to me translation which happened to be free from Barnes and Noble for my Nook. Talk about a blessing! I hope your Kindle has free books, too. xoxo)

  6. I do not use the Kindle but can see where it would be very valuable in your reading circumstances. Amazing how many e-reader converts are beginning to surface. :) Love the photo!

  7. I love my Kindle! Right now I'm reading Villette on it. Its so great to be able to read with it while walking on the treadmill. Plus, I can just throw it in my handbag and go and have a variety of books at my disposal, instead of lugging around whatever hefty tome I'm reading at the moment. Don't get me wrong, having a Kindle hasn't stopped me from purchasing books, but its definitely helped in accessing books anytime I want something new to read. Enjoy your Kindle!!

  8. I think my Kindle's arriving in a few days, too. I still prefer the print books, but I do look forward to the experience of an ereader. Whether I'll start preferring ebooks, I don't know. I doubt it, though, but I'm willing to find out.

Ah- I know exactly what you mean! I’ve been resisting for so long, but I think I’m starting to cave lol!
Reading isn't just about the words on paper (or screen in this case) it's about getting the book, looking at the cover, the scent of papers and so much more...
But I guess we have to keep up with technology whether we like to or not... :)

  10. I live in Macedonia and bought a kindle a couple weeks before moving here - like you say, not being able to head to a bookstore or library and pick up whatever book you want makes an e-reader more attractive than it would otherwise be. Right now I'm reading "Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist" and "Say Her Name" on mine. I still prefer real books, but since there's one bookstore (in the whole COUNTRY) where i can buy overpriced English language books, I've found myself pretty happy with my kindle.

  11. I know exactly what you mean. I acquired a Sony Reader recently as I was fed up with not finding books I desperately wanted to read. The libraries in South Africa are poorly stocked and a lot of books are overpriced. I love the Book Depository but I also hate waiting two weeks when I'm hungry for a particular book. I'll still continue to borrow and buy books but an eReader is handy in a pinch!
