The Best Books of 2022
The best books I read in 2022.
First the honorable mentions:
Happiness as Such - Because if you love Ferrante then you must read Ginzburg.
I’m Glad My Mom Died - Riveting!
Babel - Gorgeous world building.
A Swim in a Pond in the Rain - It will change the way you read forever.
Cassandra at the Wedding - The original queer and unhinged narrator written in 1962.
And the best…
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow - Just wonderful!
Paradais - Brutal but brilliant.
Happening - A must read, a book we aim to always have in stock.
Small Things Like These - Short but packs a punch.
At the top of the list and by far the best book I read this year isn’t even out yet. One of the perks of being a bookseller is that we get access to ARCs so thank you @penguinrandomhouse and @coffeespoons_reader for making this possible. The Shards isn’t for everyone, in fact it should include numerous trigger warnings (it’s filled to the brim with drugs, sex, violence, murder). It’s disturbing and graphic but I was completely consumed by this book for the entire month of December. This is the book The Secret History fans have been waiting for. It’s been thirty years since Donna Tartt released that novel and dedicated it to her friend and classmate, Bret Easton Ellis. One can only imagine how these two minds connected and managed to write these two brilliant books albeit thirty years apart. Coming in January 2023, The Shards follows a group of privileged high school friends in 1980s Los Angeles as a serial killer strikes across the city. The atmosphere and mood are A+.
So that’s it, the best of 2022 and what was an excellent reading year. Happy New Year bookworms! 🎉🥳📚
