Teaser Tuesdays

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. I've seen it on several book blogs and I'd like to continue the tradition so here it goes...

Quote two sentences from the book you're currently reading:

"It was with an agitated burning heart and brain that I hurried homewards, regardless of that scorching noon-day sun - forgetful of everything but her I had just left - regreting nothing but her impenetrability, and my own precipitancy and want of tact - fearing nothing but her hateful resolution, and my inability to overcome it - hoping nothing - But halt, - I will not bore you with my conflicting hopes and fears - my serious cogitations and resolves."

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte, page. 56

  1. Hello, Mrs. B. I'm really not familiar with the work of the Bronte sisters, but I've heard that some of their novels can be quite depressing. Last month I bought Wuthering Heights because Penguin came out with a Deluxe Edition with a fabulous cover designed by that fashion illustrator. I've read only the first 10 pages or so, so I couldn't tell whether it's a depressing read. (My friend commented that Heathcliff is not as "lovable" as Darcy.)

  2. Hey Peter, My favourite Bronte is Jane Eyre. I agree with your friend, I prefer Darcy of course!

  3. Peter - I have to say that I would rather have pins stuck in my eyes than read Wuthering Heights again and I know that when I say that to certain afficianados, they reel back in horror. Jane Eyre is my favourite Bronte, but the Tenant of Wildfell Hall is rapidly catching her up. Anne was very underestimated by her family so she has rather lurked in the background which I think is a shame.

  4. @Elaine- Yes, I too preferred The Tenant of Wildfell Hall to Wuthering Heights. I was very impressed with Anne's writing and would love to read her other book one day.
